Fur Trade Re-enactment and Voyager Rendezvous Event on June 15-17, 2017
On June 15-17, 2017 we will be hosting the Edmonton House Brigade at the Lac La Biche Mission Historical Site. This living history re-enactment group brings to life the days of the great fur trade brigades in western Canada in the 18th and 19th centuries. They will set up camp at the historical site and conduct demonstrations such as camp cooking, back powder firearms, fire lighting with flint and steel, blacksmith demos, and much more. Demonstrations will take place from 10am-5pm.
On Saturday June 17th, in addition to the fur trader demonstrations, come and enjoy a free pancake breakfast and see the voyager canoes. Below is the schedule:
8:00am-9:30am - Free pancake breakfast at the Lac La Biche Mission
9:30am - Voyager canoe departure ceremony including bag piper and black powder sendoff
10:00am - Voyager canoes launch
Canada Day 150th Celebration on July 1, 2017
We are hard at work organizing our 2017 Canada Day Celebration. With it being Canada's 150th anniversary, we are looking to make it extra special. We are currently booking in entertainers for the event including dancers, singers and fiddlers. There will be several new additions to the event including Ukrainian dancers, Bingo, a caricature artist, a balloon artist, local artists displaying their paintings, and new craft venders taking part in the craft sale. Also check out the watermelon eating contest sponsored by Britton's Independent Grocer. We will also be providing free tours of the restored Laundry House and its new exhibit (something brand new and never shown on Canada Day before) as well as the newly restored Garage with its new exhibit of tools, agricultural equipment, and more. Stay tuned for more information.
